The multi-band survey S-PLUS – Southern Photometric Local Universe Survey — Claudia Mendes de Oliveira

The multi-band survey S-PLUS – Southern Photometric Local Universe Survey Claudia Mendes de Oliveira University of Sao Paulo This talk will describe S-PLUS, done with the T80-South telescope, the Brazilian robotic telescope located in Cerro Tololo, and will highlight the potential of the combination of a 12-band optical filter system and a wide-area coverage, in several different areas of study. We would like to specifically investigate possible S-PLUS collaborations with the Chilean community. The T80-South telescope is equipped with a 9.2k$\times$9.2k 10$\micron$-pixel E2V detector giving a field of view of 2 deg$^2$ with a plate scale of 0\farcs55 pixel$^{-1}$. The filter system used by S-PLUS consists of 5 SDSS filters and 7 narrowband filters centered on prominent spectral features (i.e., O{\sc{ii}}, Ca H$+$K, D$_n$4000, H$\delta$, Mg$b$, H$\alpha$ and CaT). S-PLUS will cover an area of about 8000 square degrees, and it is ideal to find low-metallicity and blue-horizontal branch stars and high redshift quasars, determine the physical properties of the nearby galaxy population selected based on accurate 12-band photometric redshifts, and to map the large scale structure in the nearby universe, among other topics. S-PLUS will cover an additional $\sim$1300 deg$^2$ of the Galactic disk and bulge. Here we will describe the main characteristics of the survey and will highlight the science done so far and planned. Part of the survey data is already publicly available to the international community through the S-PLUS DR-2 at www.splus.cloud.
