The formation, death, and evolution of stellar bars and their galaxies – Yetli Rosas Guevara

Stellar bars are non-axisymmetrical structures found in over a third of massive spiral galaxies, including the Milky Way. It is believed that these structures form between redshifts 1 and 2 and are considered possible agents of galaxy evolution. They can efficiently redistribute gas, stars, and dark matter in the centre of the galaxies. The favourable conditions for a galaxy to (or not to) form a bar and how the presence of these elongated structures encapsulates the history of their host galaxy are not completely understood. Using the TNG100 and TNG50 simulations, I will present the formation, evolution, and dissolution of stellar bars and connect them to the history of disc galaxies.
