Protoplanetary Disk Continuum Substructures Across Disk Sizes — Pietro Curone (Universidad de Chile)

To understand the origin of planets and of our own Solar System, we need to study protoplanetary disks, the gas and dust systems surrounding young stars from which planets form. Over the past 15 years, the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) has revealed substructures such as rings, gaps, and asymmetries in the dust continuum emission of these disks, often interpreted as signatures of ongoing planet formation. In this talk, I will start with properties of substructures in large, bright disks, then move down to the smallest known disks. Here, substructures remain surprisingly common, suggesting that planet formation may still be underway in disks of all sizes.
