On the metal content and ionization properties of star-forming galaxies – José M. Vílchez

Recent results on the chemical composition, star formation activity and nature of the stellar populations of star-forming galaxies are reviewed, with special emphasis on the family of star-forming (SF) dwarf galaxies. Deep integral field spectroscopy of an extended sample of SF dwarfs has been performed using large aperture telescopes; results obtained are presented including the exploration of their ionization structures and kinematics, derivation of chemical abundances, as well as an evaluation of their ionization budget from massive stars. Overall, all results are presented and discussed in the light of recent findings on the mass-metallicity-star formation relation and for the ionization balance of SF galaxies.
