Detailed open cluster chemistry – Laia Casamiquela

Open clusters are groups of gravitationally bound systems of stars which have born from the same molecular cloud. For their common origin, stars in open clusters share a number of properties (age, chemical composition, motion around the Galaxy), which make them interesting objects to study a number of astrophysical processes, from star formation and stellar evolution to the chemical evolution of the Galaxy. We are in the midst of a revolution in Galactic and stellar astronomy thanks to the large observational effort aimed at providing distances and space motions for billions of stars, coupled with detailed chemical compositions and asteroseismic data. In this talk I will speak about the usefulness of open clusters in this context.
