ALMA observations of protoplanetary disks have opened new interesting avenues for the detection of planets.  Substructure in protoplanetary disks is usually interpreted as evidence of enshrouded protoplanets that disturb the disks. However, the hypothesis that a protoplanet is the main driver of the observed substructure faces several challenges. Perhaps the most striking one is the dearth of protoplanet detections. In this talk, I will review recent computational efforts that enable a multiscale and integrated study of planet-disk interaction to better identify the footprints of a growing planet. I will highlight the thermodynamic criterion for the formation of circumplanetary disks around giant planets. Finally,  I will illustrate the outsize impact of dust grains on the detectability and early evolution of young planets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
